Why AAIP draw numbers matter for your file

A provincial nomination is worth 600 additional points in a federal Express Entry profile, and for many applicants an AAIP nomination is the difference between waiting in a pool and receiving an invitation to apply for permanent residence. As of the October 7, 2026 update, 1,062 of Alberta’s 6,603 nomination spaces for 2026 remain, with 948 applications still to be processed. The latest AAIP draw and current cut-off

The most recent AAIP draw on record is October 7, 2026, an Alberta Express Entry Stream draw for Priority Sectors (Aviation). It invited candidates with a minimum score of 56 and issued 22 invitations. The round before it was October 2, 2026 (Alberta Opportunity Stream) at a minimum score of 54 with 123 invitations.

A few things stand out in the current rounds. AAIP’s largest draw since mid-July was the July 15, 2026 Alberta Opportunity Stream round (833 invitations at a minimum score of 53), followed by the August 14, 2026 round (743 invitations at 58) and the September 1, 2026 round (575 invitations at 56), which reflect Alberta Opportunity Stream’s role as the program’s highest-volume stream. September 21, 2026 brought another round for the Alberta Express Entry, Law Enforcement Pathway: fewer than 10 invitations, minimum score 49. An AAIP invitation is an invitation to apply for a provincial nomination, not a nomination itself.

Versus the previous Alberta Express Entry, Law Enforcement Pathway draw (July 10, 2026): 73 days apart, the minimum score fell 3 points from 52 to 49, and invitation counts cannot be compared because at least one of the two rounds is listed as "Less than 10".

How to read AAIP draw scores

The minimum score in each AAIP draw is the lowest worker EOI score among the candidates invited in that round. Your EOI score is calculated from the worker Expression of Interest points grid, which rewards factors like your Alberta connection, work experience, language, education, and job offer. But a critical caveat sits on the official page: EOI score is not the only factor AAIP uses to select candidates. AAIP weighs a range of information in your EOI to meet program priorities, and to protect program integrity it does not disclose the full parameters of recent draws.

That means the published minimum score tells you where the bar landed for one specific stream on one specific day, not a guaranteed threshold you can target. A construction draw at 65 and an aviation draw at 47 in the same month do not mean aviation is easier in general; they mean the eligible pool in each sector was different that week. Read the scores as a trend and a rough gauge of competitiveness within a stream, not a fixed cut-off you can bank on.

2026 nomination allocation and spaces remaining

Alberta receives a set number of provincial nominations to issue each year, distributed across its streams. The table below shows the 2026 program totals as published on the official processing page.

Beyond the 6,603 base allocation, Alberta also has access to additional federal spaces reserved for practice-ready physicians and Francophones (up to 10,000 such spaces exist across all provincial nominee programs). As of the October 7, 2026 update, AAIP had issued 50 nominations to physicians and 12 to Francophones under that separate initiative, and those do not count against the 6,603.

The allocation is split across streams, and AAIP reserves the right to move spaces between streams at any time. As of the October 7, 2026 update, spaces remaining by stream included 457 in the Alberta Opportunity Stream, 291 in the Rural Renewal Stream, 15 in the Tourism and Hospitality Stream, 176 across the Dedicated Health Care Pathways, 91 in the Alberta Express Entry Stream Accelerated Tech Pathway, and 3 across its priority sector draws and other initiatives. Because AAIP redistributes allocations as needed, these stream-level numbers move; the official processing page is the place to check the current split.

The worker EOI pool: your competition by stream

The worker Expression of Interest pool is the group of candidates eligible to be selected in AAIP draws. Its size by stream tells you how much competition you are up against. As of the October 7, 2026 update, the pool held 34,478 eligible expressions of interest.

The Alberta Opportunity Stream pool is by far the largest, which is why its draws are also the largest in volume: the program moves a lot of candidates through it. A niche pathway like Law Enforcement has a tiny pool (and its draws invite fewer than 10 at a time), so a single strong profile can matter far more there than in a stream with tens of thousands of candidates.

What changed in AAIP in 2026

Several 2026 program changes affect how draws run and who is eligible. These come from the Government of Alberta’s official AAIP updates page:

1. June 17, 2026: AAIP launched an Eligibility Explorer tool to help candidates check which streams they may qualify for.

2. May 26, 2026: A worker EOI edit function was added, expressions of interest are valid for one year, and candidates can reject an invitation and return to the pool before the invitation period ends.

3. April 7, 2026: A new $135 fee to submit a worker Expression of Interest took effect; other AAIP fees were unchanged. Confirm the current EOI fee on the official Alberta fee schedule before you pay.

4. March 11, 2026: Wage and hours-of-work fields were added to the worker EOI. Expressions of interest missing this information may be excluded from some draws, which makes EOI accuracy a direct eligibility issue.

Two earlier changes still shape 2026 draws. Effective January 1, 2026, the Rural Renewal Stream moved to per-community endorsement allocation limits, one-year validity for Endorsement of Candidate Letters, and a TEER-based endorsement model, and in-Canada applicants must hold a valid work permit when they apply and are assessed. And in September 2025, IRCC increased Alberta’s nomination allocation, which is reflected in the current 2026 total on the processing page. Alberta also stated that, for 2025, it was not participating in the federal temporary public policy that facilitates work permits for prospective provincial nominee candidates, and the Alberta Opportunity Stream still carries a note excluding applicants who received a work permit support letter under that policy.
